Wattle Groups Learning Reflection- week ending 1st of April

Art -Printing

The children have been able to engage in different art printing experiences at kinder the last couple of weeks. The children have enjoyed painting on tiles and then printing their picture they painted on a piece of paper, this was a very popular experience that filled both our drying racks. The children were amazed how their picture transferred from the tile to the paper.

As the tile art experience was very popular, we extended the children’s interest by painting our friends directly onto the Easel and then printing our painting onto a piece of paper. The child who was getting painted sat on a chair in the middle of the easel and the child who was the painter was able to paint their friends face on the easel. The children were encouraged to look at their friends features, what colour hair and eyes do they have? is the hair up or down? Is the hair spiky? What shape is the face? Is the person smiling or frowning. The children had so much fun, there were many many laughs, especially when the child who was getting painted saw the final product. The children who got painted were able to take home the painting that their friend painted of them. We will be continuing this experience this week.

Providing opportunities in the curriculum for the children to engage in different forms of art helps build creative expression, fine motor skills, math skills, language skills and cognitive development. This year the group of children are very creative and imaginative and really enjoy engaging in art experiences. Next term I would like to extend this interest by engaging in some different art styles and exploring some famous artists.

Other areas of interest Inside

  • Construction sets- Toolo and widgets
  • Bird Imaginative area
  • Role play in the dramatic corner- Teppanyaki restaurant
  • minecraft table
  • drawing table
  • Kinetic sand with spiders and other natural materials
  • The children had the opportunity to draw their families to put in their special books last week.

Areas of interest outside

  • Role play- We had some scary and some nice witches making spells in the witches dome.
  • Role play- We had many fire fighters saving people and animals from burning buildings.
  • Role play- Pretending to be mechanics and fix broken down cars.
  • Construction- Using pipes, wood and blocks to build ramps to roll down balls.
  • Learning how to swing on the swings- Some of the children are very keen to learn how to push themselves on the swing. The teachers have been giving the children one big push and then encouraging the children to use their legs to keep moving the swing. It would be great when your at a park with your child that you continue building this goal with your child if they can’t already master the swing.

Group time experiences

-One of the favourite group time experience last week was the Colour musical game. Each child had a coloured scarf to dance around with when the music was playing. When the music stopped the children had to find the same colour scarf that was hiding in the room, once everyone found the right colour they came back to the middle to dance to music again until it stopped and the process happened again.

We then extended this game by playing another coloured musical game. The children danced around with their scarfs until the music stopped, Crystal picked a coloured scarf out of her magical bag and if the children had that colour scarf they were out of the game and had to sit down, this went on until we had one colour left. The children wanted to play this game over and over again, they loved it that much!

Using music and movement experiences is a fun way to extend the children’s learning and knowledge. These colour games provided the opportunity to build the children’s colour knowledge and the ability to follow a series of instructions.

-Action Cards- Outside we sat around in a circle to engage in a movement experience. Half a dozen of action cards were placed in the middle of the circle, a child was chosen to turn a numbered card over and choose one of the actions that was on the back of the card. As a group we did the action together. Some of the actions were, touching your nose with your tongue, make your body as small as it can go, make a arch with your body and kneel on one knee and clap 5 times. We have many more action cards to get through, we will be continuing this experience this week.

-Wombat Stew- The children were able to participate in the story ‘Wombat stew’ by role playing some of the parts of the storyline. Each child was given a item to put in the billy can to make Wombat Stew. When it was their turn they danced around the billy can singing the Wombat stew song.

-Friday Yoga- We were able to visit Squish the fish in our yoga adventure on Friday.
