Learning Reflection- week ending Friday 5th of August

What a fun but busy week we had last week. The children loved our visits from the fire fighters and Leica the German Shepard.

Fire Truck visit

We were able to learn a little bit more about what jobs the fire fighters do when on duty, the children were interested to hear that the fire fighters do many jobs not just putting fires out. The children were also able to learn about the special fire uniform they put on and the equipment they use to help them in a fire.

The most exciting part of the visit was squirting the hose and going in the truck.

We extended the visit by setting up a fire station outside with fire fighter costumes and the children also used the large wooden blocks to build their very own fire trucks. We had many fires at kinder last week, lucky we had some very good fire fighters to save the day.

Responsible Pet Ownership Visit

The Responsible Pet Ownership Program is a funded program that visits most early childhood and primary schools settings in Victoria. The program helps children learn how to be safe around dogs. The children were able to learn that it is very important to leave dogs alone when they are sleeping, eating, sick or without a owner. The children learnt the correct way to approach a dog and how to pat a dog properly.

Leica the German Shepard was very gentle and a patient dog and allowed all the children to practice patting a dog safely.

Wattle Groups Commonwealth Games

We thought it would be a good idea to host our very own Commonwealth Games at kinder, the children were able to participate in

  • Running races
  • Hurdles
  • Egg and spoon race
  • Long jump

All the children had so much fun competing in the activities and cheering each other on.

The children were also able to make their very own Medal.

Letter of the week was C

We have been having so much fun with our letter of the week activities. Last week the children were able to bake yummy Choc Chip Cookies and engage in a cloud experiment. We learnt more about how clouds are formed and how it rains from clouds.

Other areas of interest

Cutting activity- the children were able to free the animals who were tangled in string by using scissors cut the string off. A great cutting activity to build the children’s skills and hand strength.

Literacy board game- Some of the children enjoyed playing the alphabet bingo game. A great game to extend the children’s letter knowledge.

Play dough- Dogs, cats and natural resources were added to the play dough this week. Te children were making beautiful homes or gardens for the animals to play in.

Cutting activity- A area has been set up for the children to cut out different pictures and glue on a piece a paper. The children were also encouraged to create a story or adding to the picture that they just cut out. Again another area to extend the children’s cutting skills and following more than one step.

Water beads with marble run construction- The children enjoyed building the marble construction and pouring the water beads down.

Science experiment- The children were able to experiment with objects sinking or floating. This lead us reading the story ‘Who sank the boat’ and experimenting how many objects can sink the container.

Group time- We learnt a new song called ‘Ram, Sam, Sam.’ It was a lot of fun, we will be doing it again this week. We have been loving all the items in the Secret in the boxes. On Friday the children were able to engage in the small group activities.
