The Intergenerational Program runs from terms 2-4 in our four-year-old Boronia Group.
We invite interested residents, from Rosebud Village, to visit us at kindergarten, where we build friendships and participate in a range of experiences and activities.
The purpose of an ‘Intergenerational Program’ is to provide opportunities to develop meaningful relationships for both children and older people, to encourage older people to use their experiences and skills, and to allow both young children and older people to experience the pleasure and excitement that occurs with communicating, one generation to another. (ECA publication, Intergenerational Programs, 2021)
Our ‘Intergenerational Program’ provides significant benefits for both the residents at the Retirement Village and our preschool aged children, including positive wellbeing, a sense of belonging and self-esteem, social connectedness and endless opportunities for both generations to learn from each other.
Over the fortnightly visits, the children will get to know their ‘Grand-Friends’ and be able to share play experiences such as reading stories, completing puzzles, art and craft experiences, construction and building experiences, gardening tasks, opportunities for music and possibly even cooking! We anticipate that they will learn many things from each other and develop positive and respectful relationships.
